Intervention by the EC Cohesion Funds (ERDF, ESF and CF) is a powerful aid in the financing of public policy, insofar as:
Bearing in mind the considerable dimension and scope of European Community Funds in Spain, as well as their extensive capacity for action and transformation on the one hand, and that promoting gender equality is contained as a cross-cutting principle within EC Fund-governing legislation on the other, the Institute of Women has a double role:
a) As an Administrator (intermediary organisation) of action aimed at promoting gender equality, the Institute of Women participates in the following Operative Programmes:
b) As a national organisation responsible for monitoring compliance with the cross-cutting principle of equal opportunities in actions co-financed by the Funds.
For this reason, and bearing in mind the request lodged by the organisations that manage the funds, it has been seen as necessary to articulate a network that contributes to supporting and assisting fund management institutions in the task of truly and effectively incorporating the gender perspective into the projects co-financed by the Funds.
